The City Receives Recycling Incentive Grant

This is the twenty-ninth recycling grant that the city has been awarded over the past twenty-three years from the Lorain County Solid Waste Management District.  The grand total to date that's been awarded to the city is $1,828,527.86

Over the years, the city has funded programs such as the Police Department D.A.R.E, Safetyville and Youth Bureau programs, many school recycling programs, purchased gift cards for our recycling incentive contest that ran for many years.  In addition, the city purchased dozens of trash receptacles, hundreds of temporary yard signs, thousands of recycling program brochures, thousands of feet of drainage pipe, hundreds of cases of copy paper and envelopes, dozens of picnic tables and benches, hundreds of parking stops, an electronic scrolling LED message board at the corner of Route 83 and Bainbridge Road for City Hall, a waste oil heater used to heat the Service Department garage area, a wood chipper for tree branches, countless signage in and around various city cemeteries, parks city buildings and roadside entrance points, thousands of traffic cones, barrels and barricades used by the Police, Fire and Service Departments, several pavilions, dozens of community message boards, playground equipment, rubber safety mats, thousands of cubic yards worth of rubber mulch for playground areas, safety cribbing used by the Fire Department during accidents, thousands of food service containers and items used by the Senior Center for the “Meals On Wheels” program, too many promotional items to count over the years, such as water bottles, letter openers, magnetic clips, ice scrapers, pens, pencils, t-shirts, and the list goes on and on.  Every item that the city purchased or spent grant funding on over the years have either been made from recycled material, can be recycled further or aids and educates on the merits of recycling.

Over the years, every city department and virtually every citizen has utilized or benefited from the recycling grants in one way or another.  A special thank you to the Lorain County Solid Waste Management District for making these grants available!
