City and Fire Union Agree to New Contract

The City of North Ridgeville is pleased to announce the successful negotiation of a new three-year contract with the International Association of Firefighters, Local 2129, AFL-CIO. Council unanimously approved the contract on February 5, 2024. The agreement will be effective retroactively from January 1, 2024 through December 31, 2026.

This agreement reflects the City's recognition of the men and women of the Fire Department, who play an integral role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our community. Mayor Kevin Corcoran expressed enthusiasm about the agreement. "We have one of the best fire departments in our state. As a city, we must provide the resources needed to keep our safety services strong."

In the new contract, wages will increase five percent in 2024 and three percent in both 2025 and 2026. Additionally, a new step in the wage schedule has been created that will allow for an additional five percent increase for eligible employees.

"Competitive wages are an important factor in hiring new personnel and retaining our current personnel," said Corcoran. "These increases not only benefit our first responders, but will allow us to continue to provide our residents, employers and visitors the world-class, life-saving services that they have been enjoying for decades."

Mayor Corcoran extended his appreciation to the IAFF Local 2129 for their collaborative spirit throughout the negotiation process.
