Head Mechanic
Department: Public Works
Employment Status: Full time
Working Hours: Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; hours will include work call-outs at various hours including weekends and holidays.

Description: The Head Mechanic oversees and participates in the more complex and difficult work of staff responsible for performing a variety of skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled technical diagnostic repair and maintenance work on a variety of automotive, truck, tractors and other light and heavy power-driven equipment; ensures adherence to safe working practices and procedures; provides training to lower-level personnel; orders parts and maintains adequate inventory; performs duties as assigned. Qualifications: Must have equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. Completion of specialized training in the maintenance and repair of gasoline and diesel-powered light and heavy equipment. Must have four years of related journey-level mechanic experience. Must possess a valid Class “B” Ohio Commercial Driver’s license at time of application; Master Level ASE Mechanic Certification is required and must keep current; As regulations change, incumbents are expected to obtain the State-mandated certifications required in order to work on certain vehicles, equipment, Emergency Vehicle Training Technician, or in handling materials. These certifications will be designated and specified at the time of hire or as the requirements become necessary to perform the duties of the position.

Arborist
Department: Public Works
Employment Status: Full time
Working Hours: Normal business hours; occasional evening/weekend meetings

Description: Reporting to the Director of Public Works or designee, this position is responsible for managing the urban forest and green spaces throughout the City; developing and managing tree maintenance, tree planting programs and other horticultural programs; inspecting and evaluating trees on public property for potential hazards, failures and overall tree health; and interpreting, applying and enforcing all City tree ordinances. Qualifications: Valid State of Ohio driver’s license, and the ability to maintain insurability under the City’s vehicle insurance policy; Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred. International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist and a minimum of three to five years of work experience in forestry, arboriculture or horticulture in a commercial or municipal environment. Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in forestry, arboriculture or related discipline preferred. Pesticide applicators license is preferred. ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification preferred.

Resident Project Representative

Ability to achieve an 85% or better score on a City-issued assessment that encompasses the vital functions of the position and knowledge thereof.

Zoning Inspector

Description: Under the general supervision of the Chief Building Official, the Zoning Inspector is a professional position with a high degree of independence and responsibility for assuring compliance of city zoning and property maintenance regulations. See the job description for more details. 

Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Experience with municipal zoning, construction code compliance, public administration or related field preferred. The ideal candidate would possess working knowledge of due process requirements, private property rights and evidence collection. Must have great communication skills and work well with the general public. Must have a valid Ohio Driver’s License and ability to remain insurable under the City’s vehicle insurance policy.
