Race Road To Close May 15 for Ohio Turnpike Bridge Deck Replacement (Revised 8-31-2023)
The Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission will be replacing the bridge deck over the Ohio Turnpike on Race Road. Race Road will be closed beginning May 15 at 7 AM for 120 days to perform the work.** Race Road will be open to local traffic and businesses but the bridge will be closed. Detour signs will be posted to assist drivers around the work area.
Although most construction will occur during daytime hours, a number of items will need to occur overnight due to lane closure restrictions on the Ohio Turnpike below and ideal weather conditions that need to be met. Some work at night will necessitate equipment that will create noise during an intermittent basis. Such work might include:
- Removal of existing deck slab pieces over the traffic lanes below in late May and early June.
- Placement of the new deck that will necessitate the need for concrete trucks going in reverse and using their back-up warning features. This work will likely occur in early August.
- Other short term night time work may be necessitated throughout the project.
** Update August 28 - due to weather, the project completion date has been extended to the end of September; Update August 31 - tentative reopening date is October 2, 2023.
