Norfolk Southern will be replacing rail in several crossings in Elyria and North Ridgeville causing closures. The closures are only scheduled to last 2-3 hours for phase one; however, time estimate are subject to change. Detours will be posted. Important Update: During this repair work, the Quiet Zone will not be operational and you may hear train horns.
The tentative closures for the rail train to drop off rail for phase one is as follows:
March 30-31, 2020 - Olive Street, Abbe Road, Race Road and Maddock Road * 4-1-2020 - work delayed until week of April 6
March 31-April 2, 2020 - Root Road and Chestnut Ridge Road * 4-1-2020 - work delayed until week of April 6
Phase 1 consists of sawcutting a trough on each side of the crossing and drop the rail and patch it back in. This typically takes about 2-3 hours depending on the size of the road. - COMPLETED
There will be two additional phases to be scheduled at a later date - they are outlined below.
Phase 2 - the gang pulls out rail, lay new rail, spike it down and patch it back in. This will require a full closure, and the gang will open it back up in the same day within a couple of hours. - COMPLETED
Phase 3 - the crossing will be paved and permanently put back into service; this closure is a controlled closure and the road will be closed for three full days. The following is a tentative schedule for closing each crossing: Race Road and Maddock Road - work is scheduled to occur June 8, 9, 10, 2020 - RR Crossings to reopen late in the day on 6-10-2020; and, Root Road and Chestnut Ridge Road - work is scheduled June 9, 10, 11, 2020 - RR Crossings to reopen late in the day on 6-11-2020.
The entire project - all three phases - are anticipated to be completed by mid June 2020. Once the work is completed, the Quiet Zone signal will be repaired.
