The City will be extending the sanitary sewer along Center Ridge Road from Barton Road east to the city limits for approximately 3,200 feet. This capital improvement will aid in eliminating failing septic systems and provide opportunities for undeveloped lands. The project will be paid for with sewer improvement funds. Below is an exhibit showing the project area.
Construction of the sanitary sewer main will be performed by Fabrizi Trucking & Paving Co, Inc. and will begin at the intersection of Center Ridge Road and Barton Road and progress east to the city limits. Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin the week of January 31, 2022 and continue into the early spring. The project deadline is expected to be completed by the end of August 2022. Center Ridge Road three-lane paving in the affected area is tentatively scheduled for early August (weather dependent).
A temporary closure of the Center Ridge Road and Barton Road intersection will be necessary at the start of the project. The exact day and times will be minimized to the greatest extent possible and coordinated at a later date. Once work at the intersection is completed, two-way traffic will be maintained for the remainder of the project. Please be patient and use caution when driving through this area.
All plumbed structures that are within 200 feet of the proposed sanitary main will be required to tie in to the public sanitary sewer. There are a handful of structures with basements that are below the elevation of the proposed sanitary sewer main. In these instances, grinder pumps will be needed to connect basement plumbing to the new sewer.
Work within the project limits will include the installation of a 10” sanitary sewer with laterals and cleanouts that extend to the right of way. Work will also include the replacement of a few feet of drive aprons on the south side of Center Ridge Road, some storm sewer improvements and restoration of the tree lawns that are disturbed during construction.
It is anticipated that sanitary sewer taps will be available by October 1, 2022. Upon completion of the sanitary sewer, property owners will be contacted by the Lorain County Public Health with the steps required to transition from an individual sewage system to the public sanitary sewer.
