Replacement of Mills Road Bridge Over French Creek, Summer/Fall 2021

The City obtained a grant through the Ohio Department of Transportation’s Municipal Bridge Program to provide federal funding for a major portion of the costs to replace the Mills Road bridge over French Creek. The bridge is located on Mills Road midway between Westminister Avenue and Greenwich Avenue. The replacement is necessary due to the serious condition of the bridge deck concrete slab and design loading deficiencies of the foundation.

The new bridge will be a 25 foot span by a 9 foot rise precast reinforced concrete three-sided culvert. Work will also include the relocation of an existing 12" water main, additional drainage and the installation of sidewalk.

Construction of the bridge is expected to begin in June 2021 and will be completed by October 2021.

One lane of traffic will be maintained during construction with the use of portable temporary signals. Alternative routes will be 1) SR 83, Riegelsberger Road and Jaycox Road or 2) SR 83, Center Ridge Road and Jaycox Road. Part-width bridge construction will be used to complete the bridge in two phases. Temporary right of way will be acquired in order to provide space to construct temporary pavement to maintain traffic during construction.

The total cost for construction is $891,710.75.  Maximum federal grant funds of $776,000 are allotted for this project. The City will be responsible for the remaining costs of $115,710.75.
