WHY TREES MATTER
A well-maintained urban forest provides cleaner air, cooler temperatures, reduced stormwater runoff, and enhanced property values. The City Arborist is committed to ensuring our trees continue to provide these benefits for generations to come. Key responsibilities include:

Tree Ordinance Enforcement & Public Safety – Inspects trees for health, structural integrity, and safety concerns, ensuring compliance with City regulations. Works with property owners, businesses, and government agencies to address tree-related concerns and enforce ordinances that protect the City’s tree canopy.
Staff Training & Education – Provides hands on training to City employees on safe and proper tree care techniques, including climbing, ariel lift operation, pruning, planting, maintenance and disease prevention. Ensures that staff follows industry best practices and safety standards.
Collaboration with Developers & Urban Planning – Works closely with developers, architects and City planners to ensure proper tree selection, placement and maintenance in new construction projects. Reviews landscape plans to confirm they meet City guidelines and promote long-term tree health and sustainability.
Community Engagement & Public Education – Serves as a resource for residents, neighborhood groups and local organizations on tree care and preservation. Provides guidance on selecting the right trees for properties, proper maintenance techniques and the benefits of a healthy tree canopy.
