New Census Bureau Population Estimates

Pinpoint Cities in Ohio With Largest Population Gains

The U.S. Census Bureau reported today which incorporated cities in Ohio experienced the largest increases in population last year.

The city gaining the most people in Ohio between July 1, 2013, and July 1, 2014, was Columbus, whose population rose by 12,421 over the period.  Columbus was followed by Hilliard (1,458), Grove City (1,000), Delaware (764) and North Ridgeville (595)

Ohio has a total of 936 incorporated cities.  These incorporated cities include neither minor civil divisions, such as townships and precincts, nor census-designated places.

Ohio also gained 8,951 housing units during the year ending on July 1, 2014.

This information for cities is based on annual population estimates since the 2010 Census and up to July 1, 2014.  Additional estimates are available for minor civil divisions in 20 states where these areas function as general purpose governments.  Also released today were July 1, 2014, estimates of the number of housing units for the nation, states and counties.

The Census Bureau is telling the economic side of this story via two products.  County Business Patterns provides 2013 statistics on the number of business establishments, employment and payroll. Additionally, the Economic Census Geographic Area Series provides data on similar measures, plus revenues, for states, counties and places, including for more than 5,000 communities not available from previous economic censuses.  The economic census is conducted every five years and provides a comprehensive and detailed profile of the U.S. economy, covering millions of businesses representing more than 1,000 industries and providing unique portraits of American industries and local communities.
