Storm Sewers/Ditches and Fall Clean-Up

Fall season is a time of extended yard clean-up due to the large amount of leaves and debris from the trees and landscaping in all our yards.

It is imperative that everyone observe our storm sewers and ditches and assure that they are kept clear of these items during our clean-up efforts. Stockpiling leaves, grass clippings and other yard debris in or on the banks of our streams and ditches is not only unlawful, it is the primary cause for downstream blockages that is responsible for so much flooding during heavy storm events.

By everyone being responsible for their owner properties and observing and following these guidelines will dramatically reduce the drainage blockages that helps keep the storm water moving through and out of the city.

Please bag your leaves and bundle your branches and set them on the curb for Allied Waste to remove on the scheduled days of pick-up.

Although the City Service Department does regularly clear storm sewer inlets in the street when noticed they are covered over with leaves, the best way for the majority of the thousands and thousands of curb inlets throughout the city to remain clear is by the help of the residents living near one.

Thank you for your help in this season’s leaf removal.

If you have any questions, please contact the Engineering Department at (440) 353-0842.
