Door-to-Door Solicitors, Energy Marketers

NOPEC has been getting numerous reports of door-to-door solicitors from at least one energy marketer going door to door to residents in our various communities stating that their community is no longer a member of NOPEC.  This is completely false.  The City of North Ridgeville is a member of NOPEC and has been a member since its inception in 2000.  NOPEC continues to be North Ridgeville’s governmental opt-out aggregator for both natural gas and electricity.  If you have a solicitor that gives you false information you can always verify our community’s membership in NOPEC by visiting http://www.nopecinfo.org/ or by calling NOPEC’s customer service number for natural gas at 1-855-667-3201 or electricity at 1-800-292-9284.

If you feel you have been moved or slammed to another supplier, you should call your utility company and report it.  However, before any supplier can move you to another program you will receive a rescission letter from your utility.  You have 7 or 10 days to rescind an enrollment with a supplier you don't want and you will need to call the number provided in the rescission letter.

If you have a complaint about door to door solicitors making untrue statements, we would also suggest that you report inappropriate sales behavior to PUCO (Public Utility Commission of Ohio) at www.puco.ohio.gov/puco/index.cfm/contact-us/contact-us-form/?intype=complaint or call the PUCO consumer complaint line at 1-800-686-7826.
