Lorain County General Health District, Issue 36

The Lorain County General Health District serves as our local health department and provides numerous services to our community. On the November 8, 2016 ballot, Issue 36 will be a replacement and reduction health levy from 1 mill to .5 mill. This means about $30 per year per $100,000 home value will decrease to $15 per year. Yes, this health levy will be at a cost savings because of the expansion to additional communities that will share in the costs to provide the best public health services in Lorain County.

Every day your local health department—The Lorain County General Health District—works to prevent disease, to protect you, and to promote healthy choices. They love working with you behind the scenes for the health of us all. Check out 6 things you might not know about public health in Lorain County:

1. They inspect, train and educate over 1,000 places that serve you food (restaurants, grocery stores, food trucks…)

2. The health department provides immunizations to thousands of children, adults and seniors; protecting you from the spread of harmful diseases.

3. Your health department is expanding on January 1, 2017 to better protect everyone who calls Lorain County home.

4. The health department protects the waters that you drink, play in, and enjoy by: inspecting and monitoring pools, spas, and beaches, and provides flooding cleanup assistance.

5. A replacement health tax is on the ballot this November and is a financially responsible way to continue to provide the best public health services in Lorain County.

6. Your health district has been preventing diseases for 96 years-- since 1920.
