The fire department maintains apparatus that is appropriate for our community and the type of calls that we receive. Residents often ask why we have two "ladder trucks" when the largest building in the city is about 30 feet high. The answer is that the large ladders are used for reach, not height. Today's lightweight construction makes it extremely dangerous to place firefighters on roofs. For this reason, our members must operate from the safety of the aerial ladders. These ladders must be long enough to reach a two-story roof while the truck is parked 30 feet away on the street. This is where the need for reach comes from.
The following pictures of our apparatus and their descriptions demonstrate the fire department's commitment to handling any emergency for which we are called to respond.
