Sanitary Sewer Repairs

A problem facing every community in the country is storm water infiltrating the sanitary sewers during heavy rains.  As a result of this inflow, sanitary sewers fill with storm water which in turn backs into homes and floods basements.  It also increases treatment costs at the French Creek Waste Water Treatment Plant.  In 2005 and early 2006, the City hired URS Consultants of Cleveland Ohio to do a citywide flowing monitoring program.  As a result of that study, areas call sub-basins, were ranked as to their priority in causing the infiltration problems.

The first actual repair project resulting for that study will began in April 2009 in Sub-basin 14 which is bounded on the west by Avon Belden Road, on the south by Center Ridge Road, on the east by Denise Drive and on the north by Oxford Court.  It included streets such as Ridgeview, Popular, Mildred, etc.  The work will include the following on mainline sewers; grouting, point repairs and lining.  Twenty-six leaking manholes will also be repaired.

Later in 2009, repair work will is scheduled for Sub-basins 11, 12 and 13.

Center Ridge Road Traffic Signal Timing Improvements

On Wednesday, March 4, 2009, new traffic signal timings were installed on all Center Ridge Road traffic signals from Lear Nagle Road to Avon Belden Road.  A contract was entered into in late 2008 between the City of North Ridgeville and TMS Engineers, Inc. of Stow Ohio.  The $21,265.00 project was funded by the Ohio Department of Transportation as a means to reduce traffic crashes on this section of US Route 20.  Below are some of the improvements that will occur as a result of the timing changes;

-          Eastbound traffic will see an average of a 14% reduction in delay.
-          Westbound traffic will see an average of a 9% reduction in delay.
-          Average eastbound traffic stops will be reduced by 2 stops.
-          Average westbound traffic stops will be reduced by 1.2 stops.
-          Fuel consumption will be reduced by 142.87 gallons per day or 52,148 gallon per year.  At $2.00 per gallon, that is a saving of over $100,000.00 per year for Center Ridge Road drivers.
-          Hydrocarbon emissions will be reduced by about 44.45 pounds per day or 16,225 pounds per year.
-          Carbon Monoxide emissions will be reduced by about 198 pounds per day or 72,343 pounds per year.
-          Nitrogen Oxide emissions will be reduced by about 26.25 pounds per day or 9,581 pounds per year.
