A home occupation permit may be obtained for a home based business – in other words if you want to have a business that you run from your home (such as an internet based business or a service type business) you obtain a ""home occupation"" permit for a one time fee of $50.00.

There are limitations on types of home occupations that you should be aware of.  Repair and storage of vehicles, vehicle sales, heavy machinery for commercial use, wood processing for commercial use are examples of uses not permitted. 

The space used in the home occupation is limited to 25% of the total living space of your house. It is very important that your home occupation does not create additional traffic or number of vehicles parked on the street, therefore it limits the number of employees not in your family to 1 and the number of patrons vehicles to 2. The vehicles used for a home occupation also have requirements based on weight. There should be no outward sign of the business. The goal should be to keep your residential neighborhood looking like a residential neighborhood. Click on the link below for the Home Occupation application and ordinance for more information. 

Once you apply for the permit a building department representative will come to your home to inspect the space to be used for the home occupation and with approval you will obtain your Home Occupation permit. We wish you luck with your business.
